Repent Of Your Sin

The Bible commands all men everywhere to repent:

“Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device.

And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:

Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.”

(Acts 17:29-31)

People are reluctant to acknowledge they are sinners, but the Bible says clearly that all have sinned:

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”

(Romans 3:23)

You have to humble yourself and admit you are a sinner before God. If you do, He will have mercy upon you, but you must acknowledge you are wrong and cry out to Him for help and mercy. Too many come to God proud as peacocks, with self-righteousness assuming they are okay and don’t need to repent.

I believe there are three reasons why people won’t repent:

•         They don’t see the need to repent

•         They don’t think they can repent

•         They simply don’t want to repent

The response to this is that people need to see the need to repent and the Holy Spirit will convict them of their sin. Secondly, the sinner should repent because there will be serious consequences if they don’t. Thirdly, it is the lie of the Devil to tell people that they can’t repent to further ensnare them in their sin. If God tells us to repent then He will also break the stronghold of sin over our lives. Sin is powerful and can bind a man for many years, but there is more power in calling upon the name of Jesus. It can break the chains of sin and set the captive free.

Whatever the reason, most people won’t repent of their sin, and this is in direct disobedience to the command from God to repent. Therefore, most men are sinners living in disobedience to God, and He will judge them for their sin and wickedness. It is not because they can’t repent but because they won’t repent. This is important to note.

The book of Revelation reveals something startling about sinner’s unwillingness to repent:

“And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:

Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.”

(Revelation 9:20-21)

Even in the midst of the apocalypse when God is pouring out His wrath through unspeakable judgments people will still not repent. Instead of being broken, humbled, and afraid, they remain stubborn, wicked, and blind to the judgments of God and their need to repent.

Washed in the blood of Jesus

Only the blood of Jesus saves. Only the blood of Jesus can cleanse the human soul of every sinful stain. It is the only covering for sin. All men must turn to Jesus Christ to be saved. He shed His blood for all men. It has the power to wash all our sin away, glory to His name. We can be sin-free: free from guilt, free from shame, free from bondage, free from despair. Call on Jesus today to forgive you of all your sin. Let Him wash all that sin away!

“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

(Acts 4:12)

People need to repent of their wicked attitude, their unclean talk, their blasphemy, their disregard for the things of God, their greed, their idolatry, immorality, theft, self-righteousness, pride, envy, witchcraft, homosexuality, abortion, lying, drunkenness, violence, murder, prostitution and so on.

God will not suffer unrepentant sinners in His kingdom:

“Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,

Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.”

(1 Corinthians 6:9-11)

God has made a way out and it is through His Son Jesus Christ and what He did at the cross. If people reject this, there is no other way out, no other hope.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.”

(John 3:16-19)

People are very stubborn and want to hold on to their sin and wicked ways.

Christians need to repent

Christians are not considered sinners because they have repented, but if a Christian sins, then they need to repent. Unfortunately, there is a lot of sin going on in the so-called church right now. If these people don’t repent, they will go to hell. There is no “once saved always saved” in the Bible, and our sins are not all forgiven past, present, and future. This is all lies from compromised ministers bringing a false sense of security to sinful people, who think they are Christian but are walking in worldliness and sin.

In James chapter four we see the church rebuked for their sin and referred to as “sinners”:

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.”

(James 4:7-10)

In the seven letters to the seven churches (Revelation 2-3) Jesus commands churches to repent, as they are not walking in a manner pleasing to Him. He finds some in sin, false doctrine, or insufficient love and zeal toward Him. Jesus will be no less harsh is His examination of the churches today!

In first John chapter one we are told to confess and receive cleansing from sin:

“If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”

(1 John 1:6-10)

It the New Testament Christians are not referred to as sinners except in those cases where they have gone out of the way, that is, they have either erred from the faith or have become worldly. We see both examples in the book of James (James 4:8; 5:20). Christians are normally referred to as righteous, saints, disciples, believers, and so on. Therefore, for Christians to refer to themselves or each other as sinners is unscriptural terminology, unless the Christian in question has gone into sin, wherein that case they are indeed a sinner. To call yourself a sinner if you are a Christian walking with God is not a sign of humility on your part. If you are a sinner then you need to repent and get right with God.

Compromised Preachers

God wants sinners to repent. Preachers need to preach godliness and repentance. If your pastor makes sinners feel comfortable in church without preaching against sin and bringing godly conviction through the word of God, then he is not of God. Sinners are saved through the preaching of the Gospel that brings true conviction, causing them to know that they need to put things right with God. Too much mollycoddling and pampering over sinners in the churches. Sinners need to fear God and know they have offended God and that their sins are many and that they are in danger of eternal damnation. The mollycoddling message is not from God but from the false prophets that lie to them. Such soft preaching will fill churches but not the Kingdom of God. Of course, we show love and respect and preach the love of Christ, but never make sinners comfortable in their sin. This will only damn them, not save them. If the pastor or preacher truly loves them, and God, He will tell the truth without compromise. Repentance must be preached! The fear of God must be preached, and eternal damnation must be preached, as well as God’s love. The messenger has no right to water down the message.

God told Ezekiel that if he did not warn the wicked God would require the blood of that soul at his hand:

“When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.”

(Ezekiel 3:18)

As preachers, we are supposed to keep people out of hell, not make them feel comfortable on their way to hell! A preacher that does an insufficient job of warning sinners will be judged accordingly.

Sinner, you must repent! Christian, if there is any sin at all in your life, you must get it out!

Repent, repent of your sin!
