The Gospel

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

(John 3:16 KJV)

What is the Gospel? The Gospel is the good news of Jesus Christ: how God sent His Son Jesus Christ to die for the sins of humanity, to save their souls from death. Jesus died on the cross two thousand years ago and shed His precious blood in an act of atonement for the sins of humankind. We are all sinners and need a saviour; Jesus is that Saviour. He laid down His life willingly in an act of love for us.

“And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.”

(Hebrews 9:22)

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”

(John 15:13)

We were all sinners destined for hell, but Jesus stepped into history and paid the price in full to rescue us from going to hell. Now those who believe in His name can go to heaven, and also know Him personally in this life, and experience the many benefits of knowing God through Him.

“For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.”

(Ephesians 2:18)

“And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled

In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight.”

(Colossians 1:20-22)

Now wicked men are made righteous through faith in His blood.

He was the only person to ever live who was perfectly pure from all sin. Through His blood, we are now saved if we believe in His cross and follow His teaching every day.

“The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”

(John 1:29)

“And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.”

(Luke 9:23-24)

Three days later God the Father raised Him from the dead, and He is now alive and seated on His heavenly throne beside God the Father. He is King of Kings and Lord of Lords and will come back soon to set up His kingdom, and His throne on this earth, where he will reign in righteousness.

“For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.”

(1 Corinthians 15:3-4)

We know these things are true because of numerous witnesses and sufficient documentation, both in the Bible and historical writings:

“And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:

After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.

After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles.

And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.”

(1 Corinthians 15:3-4)

“To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.”

(Acts 1:3)

We must turn to Him now in repentance, being sorry for the wrong things we have done and turn from those things. If we reject what Jesus Christ has done for us, we will be condemned rather than saved at the judgment:

“For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.”

(John 3:17-21)

If we want the Gospel of Jesus Christ to save us, we must believe with our heart and confess with our mouth, and then live a life in accordance with the Gospel:

“But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

(Romans 10:8-13)
